Jersey Girl

Jersey Girl

…..Here at the studio, we’re quite certain that when Bruce Springsteen wrote his famous song, “Jersey Girl”, he was surely referring to girls like Alison Dunlap, a native of the Garden State. In his song Springsteen wrote; “Nothing matters in this whole wide world…When you’re in love with a Jersey Girl.”

Talent, a natural beauty, great wit and a distinctive charm are some of the qualities that got our attention here at the studio. An accomplished commercail photographer working out of her home in the Tacony section of New Jersey, Alison loves to take pictures and model as well. She credits David LaChapelle, Helmut Newton and Joel-Peter Witkin as a few artist’s that have inspired her. Her commercial work has a clean and crisp edge to it while she describes her personal work as more, “playful yet a provacative mixture of sensuality and sarcasm.”

TW arrived at her home on a perfectly sunny day, a short distance from the studio just over the Delaware River on the way to the shore. The daughter of a contractor father, Alison is very handy around the house. She basically can fix anything, a testament to her independence and ability to construct complex sets for a single photograph.

All The Right Stuff

All The Right Stuff

……Whenever I am traveling to LA to produce new work, I always call my friend Miles Long to see who’s in town that needs a new set of pictures. Miles works almost exclusively in the adult film industry and knows all the key players in Hollywood. He checked around and got back to me with a recommendation to photograph Ashlynn Brooke, a rising star in the adult entertainment business. Miles and I have worked together on various projects over the years, so I trusted his recommendation to set some time aside to work with the promising young talent.

Ashlynn arrived at my suite at the Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood along with her makeup artist, a Mexican born beauty by the name of Rosalinda Macias. I highly recommend the Sunset Marquis. The rooms are large, with a view of an indoor court yard and a pool. The service is excellent and just a stones throw from Sunset Strip. Not a bad place to hang out after the shoot.

Ashlynn was a joy to work with. She had a comfort with her body that made photographing her automatic. Originally from a small town in Oklahoma, Ashlynn adapted quite quickly to her new vocation and lifestyle and has developed a reputation for her ability to take care of business on the set……

Issac Mizrahi

Issac Mizrahi

…Isaac Mizrahi started to make his own clothes in the late 80’s and began to show his wears at trunk shows at the famed Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York City. The native new yorker born in Brooklyn, exploded on to the international fashion scene in the mid-nineties when fashion house Chanel bought a stake in his company.

When I met him to take this candid portrait, he was on a roll, as he was making a personal appearance at Neiman Marcus. Enormously creative, Isaac embarked on a number of different projects since, including a successful run when he designed a collection for Target beginning in 2002 to 2008, making his name commonplace in the American fashion culture. It will be exciting to see what Mr. Mizrahi produces next for Liz Claiborne where he is currently creating……

How I Met Guinevere van Seenus

Photographed On Her 18th Birthday

Photographed On Her 18th Birthday

….I was getting to know the booker’s at the Elite Modeling agency in Beverly Hills at the time. It was a beautiful day in Los Angeles on September 15th, 1995. I had some time to contact the agency after my morning shoot to see if there were any new models to test in the afternoon as my schedule would allow. They checked back after about an hour to tell me they had a young model to send for that afternoon. She was already on her way over to my hotel for hair and makeup. That was perfect, because I knew by the time my makeup artist got her ready, the sun would be setting over the Pacific, where I liked to shoot at Venice Beach. They also informed that it was the model’s birthday and that she just turned 18, her name was Guinevere van Seenus. I waited with excitement and anticipation as I always do when I am working with a new talent for the first time. Little did I know the person who was about to arrive would soon become an international super model.

I opened the door to my room to greet Guinevere, the first thing that I noticed was her size. She was unlike the really skinny girls that regularly appear on the catwalk, this girl had meat on her bones and a nice full bosom.

The next thing that I noticed were the cheek bones and the eyes, realizing instantly that she was photogenic. Then it was time to see if she could model.

Guinevere could model all right. Confident in her body, easy to work with and a face that has natural expression, a rare find. A couple of month’s later, the agency informed me that she was flown over to Paris where she took the city by storm. The rest is fashion modeling history.
Confident, determined and ready to make a small fortune….

Assignment Neiman Marcus Handbags

Assignment Neiman Marcus Handbags

…..One of the many things that is great about shooting for Neiman Marcus are the models that the photographer’s get to work with. The call came in to the studio from design team Bennett.Elia, based in Dallas, Texas. I knew immediately it was going to be a fun production, because I had worked with these designers in the past. They do things first class. The first thing we discussed was the assignment, a location shoot to produce pictures of handbags for the retail giant. In the trade it’s called, “on figure” marketing, the main emphasis is selling the product, but a fashion model must be wearing the consumer good.

Over the next couple of days, emails flowed back and forth as we poured over hundred’s of set cards of models on-line. We were able to draw from all over the country because Neiman Marcus pay’s well and the big model’s love to work for them as do the photographers. We settled on the lovely Miss Emina Cunmulaj, the Michigan born beauty to Albanian parent’s.

She resided in Yugoslavia until the age of seventeen, and then returned to the United States, where she was discovered by Elite Model Management. I have worked with many models over the years, known more memorable than Emina, the perfect mannequin. She was a delight to work with and I never witnessed a model strike a better pose, on one take than her! If it only could always be so easy……
